Although the Bankruptcy Reform Act was primarily aimed at curbing abuse of the bankruptcy system by debtors who walk away from debts they could pay, the Act, enacted on April 20, 2005, also contains provisions giving consumers new protections and requires additional disclosures in relation to credit cards and loans secured by dwellings.
